Are you looking to add some spice in the bedroom? Your daily routine can come in the way at times, and we often become so preoccupied with our everyday stress that the last thing on our mind is what will happen in the bedroom. But the reality is that physical intimacy is a vital part of your life.
For many years, certain foods have been known to have aphrodisiac properties such as increasing your blood flow, reducing stress and improving neurotransmitters. Throughout history, these foods have been purported to have a powerful effect on boosting potency, libido and sex drive.
Aphrodisiacs are named after Aphrodite, the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty.
Aphrodisiac foods are certainly not a modern invention. Their origin can be traced back to the ancient cultures of Egyptian, Greek, Roman and even Ayurveda.
But enough history! We have selected for you dishes and ingredients that might just get you in the mood for love.
#1 – Oysters
Have you ever wondered why oysters have the reputation of being an aphrodisiac food? Well, you can directly blame it on the Italian bon vivant and adventurer Giacomo Casanova. His name might ring a bell?

Casanova’s famous biography The Story of My Life is filled with stories of his legendary exploits with women and was fascinating enough even over 200 years later that it was made into a movie.
Casanova claimed to eat 50 oysters for breakfast every day and swore they were the reason for his boundless energy and libido. Hence the origins of the belief that oysters affect libido.
On a scientific level, researchers recently found that oysters contain amino acids that trigger the production of sex hormones. A well-known aphrodisiac, oysters are high in zinc and have a reputation for being great for love and fertility.

So take your fork and enjoy two complimentary oysters with a minimum spend of $20 at The Guild, Singapore a modern craft beer bar and restaurant serving up refined comfort foods in Singapore. Or choose to indulge in six complimentary oysters as you become a Prestige Member at ZaZaZu Club. #2 – Chocolate
Chocolate is not only good to taste, but also has aphrodisiac properties that might help enhance your bedroom experience. And I am not talking about using chocolate on your partner’s body to make it more interesting, even though that is also very effective to build sensuality and gameplay. No, I am talking about eating chocolate before even the ceremonies start.

The Aztecs are known to be the first on record to draw a link between the cocoa bean and sexual desire: the emperor Montezuma was said to consume the bean in copious amounts to fuel his romantic trysts.
Sweet and sensual. What else can you ask for?
#3 – Bananas
Are bananas really an aphrodisiac? With its phallic shape, it will come as no surprise that they suggest an enhancement in your partner’s libido or in another word, a libido -booster. Let’s get real, who doesn’t like a high libido to light a lover’s fire?
This fruit is, according to experts, a feel-good food which is filled with an enzyme that can trigger testosterone production in men naturally, alongside other lists of testosterone-boosting foods like beef, tuna, low-fat milk, egg yolks, fortified cereals and beans.
In addition, the fruit’s potassium and vitamin B can further elevate energy levels, and therefore suggest that we pay more attention to it the next time we need that extra fuel!

#4 – Pistachio Nuts
First of all, all nuts are good for fertility. They are also a good fit into your snack box during a hectic afternoon. Here I have decided to tell you my five favourite fertility-boosting nuts before I get into their aphrodisiac properties. Drumroll please…
These five all-wonder nuts are macadamia nuts, cashews, walnuts, pine nuts and pistachio nuts. You are highly likely to find these nuts on most lists of the superfoods to eat for fertility. But let’s just dive into pistachio nuts for now. As the experts have suggested, not only do pistachio nuts reduce blood pressure and lower the risk of heart disease, it also increases blood flow to a man’s sexual organ.
Just take one to two handfuls or 1.5 to 3 ounces of pistachios per day, not more because these delicious nuts are pretty high in calories.
#5 – Coffee
I’m sorry I drink coffee too many times a day. This is because as an adrenaline junkie, I find it essentially the world’s most acceptable stimulant, not only socially but sexually too. This cuppa coffee influences the body in many powerful ways. For one, it helps with blood flow. By saying this, it literally means that it does a lot more good to your heart than all the other beverages available out there.

Yet another benefit of a cup of Joe is in its potential to increase levels of dopamine, a type of neurotransmitter that your body makes and is often associated with the pleasure system of the brain. Your body then spreads it along four major pathways in the brain. This is potentially good news if you are ever planning to take that mood rush into a sexy relaxation mode inside the bedroom. Great for that sexy romantic weekend getaway too!
#6 – Strawberries
Strawberries; don’t leave them sitting inside the refrigerator for too long. Feed these aphrodisiacs to each other for a healthy dose of vitamins, nutrients and minerals, as well as the much needed healthy sex life.
Strawberries are known to have originated from the heart-shaped tears of Aphrodite after she learned of her lover Adonis’ death. Though it is commonly linked to an unfortunate event in the past, our modern-day strawberries are anything but a bummer.
These fresh fruits, when eaten can suggest sex to our mind, and therefore stimulate our sexual desire. They are also highly-packed in antioxidants so that you could protect your cells against free radicals, and reduce the risks of heart disease and cancer among other diseases. Nutritional fact aside, strawberries work wonders as one of the aphrodisiac foods in Singapore. Thus, if you have read this far, there is really no harm in grabbing a strawberry or two to put you and your partner in the mood for love, in the way you may think.
