How to talk to Your Kids about Sex

It is a topic as old as time, the birds and the bees. Yet, many adults would rather work overtime for demanding bosses than talk to their children about sex…

As a result, based on our survey with over 1000 participants (age 16 to 25) in ASEAN, over 60% of the youths who engaged in sexual activity did not take any precaustions to avoid pregnancy or STD, even worse, the Parents are ranked as the lowest in terms of source of sexual education.

If we want to raise socially responsible and respectful youths, the parents need to open up with their children about sexual education. The kids will feel more confident about sharing their thoughts and feelings. They will not have to rely on distorted information from their friends, the mass media, or worse, the Internet.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • Why parents should be the primary conversation partner for sexual education
  • How to start the conversation with kids in different age range
  • What content is appropriate for what age?
  • How can you react when your child asks a question about sex that you may not have the answers for or may not feel comfortable answering?

Children take their cue from their parents. If your comfortable talking about sex with your kids and you provide an environment that encourages questions, discussion, and a judgment-free zone, there’s a good chance your child will want to come to you for information and advice well into their teen years.

Use this time to build stronger bonds with your younger kids and teens. Allow them to see that you can meet them where they are and respect the world they live in. Remember, the relationship you create now will be there for years to come.
